چکیده

This paper investigates the hypothesis that cues involving the positioning of the lips may improve upon a system that performs a mapping from acoustic parameters to electropalatographic (EPG) information; that is, patterns of contact between the tongue and the hard palate. We adopt a multilayer perceptron as a relatively simple model for the acoustic-toelectropalatographic mapping and demonstrate that its performance is improved when parameters describing the positioning of the lips recorded by means of electromagnetic articulography (EMA) are added to the input of the model.

Inference of Critical Articulator Position for Fricative Consonants

Inversion aims to estimate the articulatory movements which support an acoustic speech signal. Within the acoustic–to–articulatory mapping framework, time frequency atoms had been also employed. The main focus of present work is estimating the relevant acoustic information, in terms of statistical association, for the inference of critical articulators position; in particular, those involved on...

A New Artificial Palate Design for the Optical Measurement of Tongue and Lip Movements

Electropalatography (EPG) is a well-known and established technique to measure the detailed time-varying contact pattern between the tongue and the hard palate. For EPG, the speaker wears an artificial palate in his mouth, which contains multiple electrodes (contact sensors) to register contact with the tongue. A related technique, albeit less known, is glossometry or optopalatography (OPG). Fo...

Evaluation of Relationship between Smile Line and Age

Smile line is one of the most important element of the smile esthetics. In an attractive smile, the maxillary anterior incisal curve is parallel to the lower lip. With the changes in face, lips and teeth muscles, which are caused by aging, this element (smile line) also changes. Aging causes smile line to move from its parallel position and in complete smile, formulate different shapes relative...

Estimating Tongue-Palate Contact Patterns from the Speech Signal

Electropalatography (EPG) is a technique that determines the contact patterns between the tongue and the hard palate during speech. In one of its most common forms, it utilizes an artificial palate with 62 silver electrodes embedded in its tongue-facing surface. At small regular time intervals it is recorded whether a specific electrode is contacted or not by the tongue, leading to tongue-palat...

Developing 3 dimensional model for estimation of acoustic power in urban pathways in geo-spatial information system framework

Around the word, traffic growth is causing growing air and noise pollution. Noise levels in a given area are affected by traffic on the streets as well as effective factors, including existing infrastructure and industrial centers, and so on. The purpose of this research is to model and estimate the amount of acoustic emission in the streets of Tehran's third district, using the 3D spatial info...
